About Tommaso Magrini

I am an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). As an Assistant Professor, I explore the design, fabrication and characterization of Multifunctional Architected Materials.

Until December 2023, I was a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoc Mobility Fellow at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). My work in the group of Prof. Chiara Daraio, in the Mechanical Engineering department, focused on the design, fabrication by additive manufacturing (AM) and characterization of architected composites.

Before joining Caltech, I carried out my PhD in Materials Science at ETH Zurich. My work in the group of Prof. André Studart focused on the fabrication and characterization of multifunctional bioinspired composites, an innovative class of structural materials that combine high mechanical performance with new and unprecedented optical qualities.

My background is in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology (BSc, Politecnico di Milano), Materials Science (MSc, ETH Zurich), Civil Engineering (Visiting Experience, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT).
